Last night my Aunt Kristen and Uncle Alain came with us on a walk around Saint Maur. There was a rock concert in town, so we went over to the town stadium (built in the early 1900s for the Olympics) to see if it was worth it to go. It didn't really seem like it -- it was fairly podunk -- so we continued walking along the Marne, the river that circles the town. It was a really lovely evening. Then in a matter of minutes it started absolutely pouring rain, so all four of us and the dog got thoroughly drenched. So the evening stroll became quite an adventure (everyone had fun, in case you were wondering. Especially the dog).
Anyway, this morning Michael and I went to the Louvre, since that's kind of a thing to do. I actually paid more attention to the building than the exhibits... there is just so much to look at there. It was also predictably crowded, but since both of us have been to the museum before, neither of us had much of an agenda and were able to just wander into rooms that looked like they had fewer people than the other options. We did stop by the Mona Lisa and attempted to take a photo, and failed miserably. So you just have to believe us when we said we saw it. I really like museums, though, and the Louvre certainly is an interesting one to wander around in. There is so much history there it's almost overwhelming.
This
evening we're going with Aunt Kris to have dinner with her
mother-in-law, Collette (my grandmother-in-law? Is that how it works?)
at a Moroccan couscous restaurant. It sounds tasty!
| It's quite an impressive palace. |
| It's the pyramid! |
| The ceilings were some of the best parts of the museums. And the floors. I kept getting distracted by all the cool rocks in the tiles... how stereotypical. |
| Michael liked the Roman and Greek sculpture exhibit. |
| I kind of felt like a stalker taking candids of Michael. But oh well. And you can tell a place is huge when there are that many people there and there are still empty rooms. |
| Just not near the Mona Lisa. And yes, Michael's head is directly in front of the painting, and somehow we didn't notice at the time. We're still working on our self-portrait with important thing in the background skills. |
| I've always liked the roman decorated amphora. |
| I also thought the Egyptian carvings and hieroglyphs were cool. It made me think about the anonymous people who could make them way back in the day. It's amazing. |
