Bienvenue à Blois

À la Gare Austerlitz, just before leaving Paris
Says Michael: "I can already tell I'm going to like this town". I agree. We arrived in Blois early this afternoon, and are all settled in at our hotel and have explored a bit. Once we were on the train from Paris, I promptly fell asleep, so I can't say much about the voyage, but it seemed pretty nice. And our hotel is about a 6 minutes walk from the train station, and directly across from Le Château Royal, so we have a wonderful spot here. We went on a reconnaissance walk, and successfully found a couple of little grocery stores, a bunch of cafes and restaurants, and lots of little tiny streets we're looking forward to exploring. Oh, and all the châteaux that make the Loire valley famous. Those will be cool, too. The very nice receptionist lady explained in rather fast french (I was quite proud of how much I understood... Michael got most if it, too) how to best get around and find the best tours, as well as recommended good places to walk around, so the next few days should be quite adventuresome!
Le Pont de Jacques-Gabriel, in Blois. It's the "new" bridge in town... as in it was built in the mid 1700s after the medieval one collapsed.

The clouds were just gorgeous. And then they started raining on us. Oh well!

We went for a walk along the Loire River... this quai was obviously centuries old.

I'll remember to get a picture of the front of the hotel sometime. It's very classically french, and really nice.

The room is really lovely.
