So four years later, Michael and I are at it again... this time exploring Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, and Scotland! Or more precisely, Belfast, Dublin and Edinburgh, and sort of some sights in between!
Since the domain name is still relevant, it's time to break out the travel blog.
At this moment, I am seriously jetlagged, so this post will be short and hopefully coherent. Michael has been in Belfast for the past week working with some researchers at Queens University, but I arrived this morning after an uneventful, although mostly sleepless, flight. So we spent a quiet afternoon getting settled, and took a walk through campus. When we wandered into the Student Union to look around, a very friendly girl excitedly offered us free tea and coffee, since we were the first people to come in all day, and it was nearly 4. We spent the next hour and a half chatting with her and a friend of hers.
Speaking of this friend: maybe the third sentence after hello out of his mouth was, "oh, you're from Minnesota! I love Minnesota! I spent some time in the Minnesota-Wisconsin area". The fourth sentence he spoke (in sort of a machine gun-I-mostly-understand-him fashion) was, "I'm a huge Green Bay Packer's fan!"
You come all the way to Northern Ireland, and still find people who make fun of the the Vikings.
He and Michael commenced on a fairly long football conversation, and Michael still think it's funny this Northern Ireland dude decided he liked the packers because they have nice colors.
In any case, it was really fun to get to chat with two locals about everything from local attractions to football to politics and history. I think it was a good start to a good trip!
Expect pictures starting tomorrow!
